Halloween Inspired Date Night: Pumpkins and Podcasts

Halloween inpsired date night: carve pumpkins and listen to spooky podcasts.

Get into a spooky mood with this really fun and imaginative date night idea. Find a local PYO pumpkin patch and pick out your perfect pumpkins together. Then head home, turn down the lights, light up the candles and listen to spooky podcasts (check out the list of spooky and creative podcasts below!) while you carve pumpkins. It’s the best of both worlds for the Halloween season – scary stories and ghoulish pumpkins.

What you’ll need:

  • Pumpkin carving kit
  • Newspapers or trash bag to cover your working area
  • Pumpkin carving stencils
  • Candles to create a witchy mood
  • A podcast from the list below

Recommended Rhode Island Pumpkin Patches:Halloween inpsired date night: carve pumpkins and listen to spooky podcasts.

We have two favorites. The first one is Sweet Berry Farm in Middleton, Rhode Island. Why do we love it? Not only can you find a plethora of pumpkins to pick, they also have a store where they bake fresh pies, serve up ice cream and also have tasty cider to warm up with. Fair warning: it is a favorite for a lot of Rhode Islanders, so expect some crowds during prime picking time.

We also love Jaswell’s Farm in Smithfield, Rhode Island because there are less crowds and it has a smaller farm feel. If you’re in Providence, it’s certainly closer. If you have kiddos, they also have hay rides. We also LOVE their apple cider donuts, fresh veggies, apples, pies and cider by the gallon in their farm store.

Here’s a list of podcasts we recommend to make the night more fun. We’ve got something here for everyone – whether you love the horror genre or if you’re like me and can’t do scary stories but want to listen to fun tales that spark the imagination.

Scary Rating: Pull-the-covers-over-your-head scary
A radio drama of a journalist on a paranormal adventure. This docudrama is creepy, mysterious and leaves you wondering “What just happened?!” Fair warning: the acting is not my personal favorite but the story line is worth it.

mxdxdqrtLore
Scary Rating: Creepy scary
This podcast is about dark and historical stories, creatures of legends, haunted sites and tragic events. Learn about America’s first real vampire case, the origins of Arkham Asylum and the Massachusetts forest folk.

1Limetown
Scary Rating: Suspenseful scary
Ten years ago, an entire population of a town disappears into thin air. Follow along this fictional and suspenseful story, as reporter Lia Haddock unearths what really happened in Limetown, Tennessee. Make sure to start on the first episode in this thrilling story! This podcast is easy to finish in three hours. Perfect for date night.

Scary Rating: Barely scary
This is a podcast about the myths and legends of your childhood. But there’s a twist. These stories are told as close as possible to the original legends. Learn about the true origins of stories like Pocahontas, Odin or Robin Hood.

Scary Rating: Not even remotely scary
This well produced and intricately researched podcast is about the 1% we don’t know about or notice in design, architecture, history and more. Ever wonder how the wacky, wavy, flailing arm, tube man made his way into car lots? Or the mystery cow tunnels that lie under NYC? Probably not, but that’s what makes this show so amazing. My favorite episode that’s perfect for Halloween is the “Mystery House”, an eerie story about a house built with endless windows, doors and staircases that lead to…no where.

Scary Rating: Not even remotely scary
This podcast has captivating stories about events from the past. My favorite episode is “Dreamland”. Though not a haunting story, it paints a picture perfect memory of Coney Island in its hay day. Fun fact for fellow Rhode Islanders: the creator is actually from Providence, RI.

There you have it! Everything you need to have a spooky, romantic Halloween themed date night. Have any podcast or pumpkin patch recommendations for fellow readers? Comment below! We love hearing from you.

    • I think you’ll love them. The maker of Memory Palace is from Providence (lives in NYC now) and the maker of Lore is from Mass so he does some local legends from our area. Hope you enjoy!
