Who said resolutions had to be painful? Here are seven easy (and did I mention fun?) marriage resolutions you and your boo can do now. Here’s to a year of building your marriage and having fun too!
1. Schedule a date night once a week
Setting aside some time for a date every week will transform your marriage. That’s the whole reason why we’re doing this blog! Sit down with your honey and choose one night per week. Marking it on the calendar or choosing a specific day of the week really makes date night feel intentional and special. Need ideas? We have hundreds of them!
2. Find a hobby you can do together
You married your best friend after all! Finding a hobby you can do together will bring the fun back into your marriage and build a stronger bond between the two of you. Find something you both like to do and be more intentional about doing it. If you or your spouse already have a hobby you individually enjoy doing, do it together.
3. Join a gym together
The best part about being married is you have a built-in accountability partner, some one to cheer you on, and someone to hold your feet while you do sit-ups. Join a gym together and keep each other on track and motivated with fitness goals. According to the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University, married couples who go to the gym together have a higher success rate of maintaining attendance by 54.2%. That and you’ll look hot for each other.
4. Learn something new together
Learning something new is a great challenge and will make you feel productive in the new year. Doing it together is even more fun! Learn a new dance technique like salsa, learn a new language, or take a defense class. The possibilities are endless!
5. Travel somewhere new together
Mark a dream travel destination off your calendar and just do it! It’s time to get out of your box and experience something new together. It can be as simple as seeing a national park or planning your dream trip to Europe. Either way, get out there and explore the world together!
6. Check something off your bucket list together
Choose one agreed upon item off of your bucket lists and make it happen this year! There’s no better time than now to start checking off of your bucket lists. It’s time to spice things up and get adventurous together. If it involves adrenaline, consider it a plus for your marriage. According to a famous bridge study at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada by Donald G. Dutton and Arthur P. Aron, sexual attraction is heightened when in a situation that causes high adrenaline.
7. Volunteer together
Volunteering at church is how we met and it even led to our marriage. Seeing my husband care and pray for people melts my heart every time. It can be a fun way to spend time with one another, learn how to work together outside of the house, meet new people, pick up a new skill, and accomplish something good for your community or abroad. Find a cause that the both of you can share a passion for and make a change in your world this year for the better, together.
