San Pedro, Belize

Everything You Need to Know for a Week in San Pedro, Belize

If you have been following us on Instagram, you’ve seen us post some dreamy, tropical photos lately. After a few months of hard work at our day jobs while balancing the blog and home life, Eric and I were in desperate need of a getaway. With that, we met Eric’s family for some good, ol’ fashioned R and R in the sunshine and aqua ocean of San Pedro, Belize. I think the main lesson for me during this vacation was to unplug! I’m a web designer by trade so I am constantly plugged in. The good news was internet connectivity was spotty. Just what I needed! Though it was tempting at first, I soon found myself only needing my phone to take a million, dreamy summer pictures. I even stopped paying attention to the time and what day it was. I call that a success! I was really able to finally relax for once and engulf myself in the tropical paradise of San Pedro. This being my first real international trip (Mexico and Canada don’t …

Salem, MA Must Try Restaurants: Opus Review

If you have been following our adventures here at Tonight’s Better Together, you know we took a trip to Salem, MA. While on said adventure, we happened upon the restaurant Opus. This restaurant is a mash-up of cuisines; however, it all somehow works together. When you enter Opus, you are transported into multicolor décor accented by local art. At the time of our dining experience, they happened to feature nothing but Beetlejuice inspired art. If you love Beetlejuice, then this is the place for you! So other than the peculiar décor, this restaurant is best enjoyed in leisure attire. The place kind of sprawls so this is not an intimate experience but a great choice for a Friday or Saturday night out. There is a basement level that hosts live music, a separate bar, and arcade so there is always something going on to shake up your evening. The great thing about Opus is that they can pretty much cater to any craving you might be having. After a long day of walking and exploring …

Salem Massachusetts

How to have the Perfect Day Adventure in Salem, MA

For anyone looking for a wonderful day date, Salem, Massachusetts may fit the bill with its rich historical past. Much of it is related to the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 – 1693, but there is so much more to the storied past of Salem. We just so happened to adventure through Salem around Halloween, which means that it is brimming with historical re-enactments, witch impersonators, and tons of other ghoulish fun. Salem is nestled just north of Boston along the coast and offers the adventuring couple many options to choose from. Here’s a list of recommended witchy and historical fun for you and your boo. 1. Hocus Pocus House You should definitely stop by the Hocus Pocus house on the way into town. This is the actual house featured in the film Hocus Pocus. It’s a little far away from the bustling downtown of Salem, so make sure to stop by on the way in or out of town. 2. Best parking in town For centrally located parking, head to the visitors center and …

Worcester, MA Must Try Restaurants: Deadhorse Hill

Worcester, MA Must Try Restaurants: Deadhorse Hill

We recently adventured away from our usual stomping grounds of Providence, RI and found ourselves in Worcester, MA. We had no preconceived notions about Worcester so looking for a place to eat offered us quite the dilemma. There are so many options to choose from in Worcester so picking our first place to eat was a nail biter. However some friends of ours recommended Deadhorse Hill in the downtown area, so we figured that was a good place to start our culinary story in Worcester. Deadhorse Hill offers a myriad of experiences. As you enter, you are confronted with an espresso bar that separates the lunch and dinner dining room from the breakfast dining room. We were here for dinner so we can’t speak to the breakfast date experience here, but if you have we’d love to hear about it. In the dining room there is a well manned bar front and center for those that would like to watch the excellent bar tenders practice their craft. We opted for the table as date nights …

Day date on Block Island, RI

Day Date on Block Island, RI

Most people are familiar with locations like Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket Island. Memories of warm summer days with Atlantic Ocean breezes may come flooding through your conscious mind. A fun fact, Martha’s Vineyard was where the original Jaws movie was shot, but you can relax because the shark was fake and anytime a great white gets anywhere near a beach the authorities are hot on its tail. However, there is a lesser known Island off the coast of Rhode Island that, in our opinion, could be better than any of the aforementioned locations. Block Island is a small island that is just a ferry ride away for any who wish to enjoy its shores. With the summer heat in full swing, my wife and I decided to take a day for ourselves and go find some cooler climates. We landed on Block Island as we had not been there before and we had only heard good things from friends. We were pleasantly surprised to find this to be a relaxing day for two. …

Boston Must Try Restaurants: Deuxave Review

Boston Must Try Restaurants: Deuxave Review

Located in the beautiful Back Bay of Boston, Deuxave is located at 371 Commonwealth Ave. The plates served up here are contemporary French with fresh American ingredients. My favorite! And here’s a fun fact about the restaurant for us Rhody’s: the chef studied in Providence, Rhode Island. Howdy neighbor! The atmosphere of Deuxave is relaxed but sophisticated. The decor is beautiful but you also don’t feel out of place if you come dressed in jeans. Our favorite part of this place is the outdoor seating, which is perfect on a summer night. It’s hard to find a restaurant in Boston with ample outdoor seating, but Deuxave has a cozy patio that fits 30 people so you can enjoy the outdoors in an intimate setting. Enjoy views of the historical district and park (then again every place in Boston is historical) while enjoying a glass of wine and a delicious plate of food. Regarding the parking, good luck finding a spot. Due to it’s popular location, it’s slim pickings. Skip the endless search and go straight for …

Providence, RI Must Try Restaurants: Local 121 Review

Brunch tends to be forgotten when it comes time to plan a “date night”. Date morning just sounds wrong. But despite how weird it sounds, brunch dates are great for changing up the scene and having a relaxing start to the day. For this “date morning”, we decided to double date it and meet up with another lovely couple at Local 121. The restaurant is nestled in Downcity of Providence, Rhode Island at 121 Washington St. The dinning experience is in a space that was home to a prior hotel and has been beautifully restored. All of the building architecture and even the décor is art deco. It feels like you’re traveling back in time as soon as you approach the building. The dimly lit dinning room, comfy leather chairs and large high back booths make your dining experience feel more secluded and is perfect for a date. Don’t get confused when walking through the door though. The actual restaurant is straight ahead but their basement is home to a historical speakeasy that’s reserved for …

Wicked Tulips: Spring things to do in Rhode Island

Spring Date Ideas: Tulip Picking in Rhode Island

Spring has officially sprung and the flowers are starting to bloom all over the place. It’s time to come out of winter hibernation and explore the no longer brutal outdoors. If you and your honey are looking for a fun and relaxing afternoon outside, then you should think about checking out Wicked Tulips. It’s an annual event that takes place in Johnston, RI at the Wicked Tulips Flower Farm. This is a great place to get a few selfies of you and your boo or just to take pictures of a lot of different varieties of tulips. Also, they keep half of the field open for picking so you can take home a wonderful assortment of tulips to remember your adventure. They charge $1 per tulip so budget appropriately. FULL DISCLOSURE: you will need to purchase tickets ahead of time via their website and they do tend to sell out quickly if you’re planning to go on the weekend. The best way to find out when the tickets go on sale is to sign up …

Providence RI Must Try Restaurants: Salted Slate Review

Providence, RI Must Try Restaurants: Salted Slate Review

We have walked by The Salted Slate countless times and have always been curious about the restaurant but for whatever reason, never actually went in. Finally, our friend Erika from iheartrhody.com highly recommended it so we decided to give it a try. Let me start off by saying that this restaurant is an under-rated, under-stated gem of Wayland Square in Providence. The food here rivals some of the best restaurants of Boston, without the attitude. The atmosphere is relaxed, dimly lit with an urban, contemporary feel. Think cool hanging lights, wood, brick and metals. The wait staff is relaxed, friendly and timely and the parking is a snap.  The presentation of the food is one of my favorite aspects of this restaurant. Most of everything is served on a salted slate, literally. Fun, black, flat slates are placed before you with chunks of delicious sea salt sprinkled on and around the food. For the quality of food, you would expect small portions, but this was not the case. The slates and plates were generously filled …

Must go to Providence restaurants: Milk Money RI restaurant review

Providence, RI Must Try Restaurants: Milk Money Review

Milk Money is great for a date with your special someone based on the fact that it is a tapas styles restaurant. For those that are unfamiliar with this concept, it is Spanish for small plates, which is great for sharing and tasting a multitude of different dishes. Milk Money is considered new American cuisine and offers a wide variety of dishes ranging from charred octopus, to fried chicken, to even vegetarian options. With such a wide variety of foods, everyone has something to choose from. To start, you might be looking for a drink. They have an ever-changing drink menu that has something to offer for everyone. My wife just so happened to order the Modern Man’s Elixir. This particular drink is made for the cold New England winter days. We are not a hundred percent sure what is in it but it is tea based with some whiskey mixed in. If you can figure it out, we’d love to know! All that we could discern is that it was delicious. I had a …

Holiday Lighted Boat Parade - Mystic Connecticut

Christmas Date Ideas: Holiday Lighted Boat Parade in Mystic, CT

We are really excited that we’re just three weeks away from my favorite holiday: Christmas. Ok, I should rephrase that. I am really, really excited. I tend to go a little overboard and my poor husband is caught in the wake. We made a deal that there would be no mention of Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. So naturally, the day after Thanksgiving, my husband woke up to a fully decorated house and two days after the turkey day, we were headed to a double date with some friends in Mystic, Connecticut to kick of Christmas festivities watching boats covered in bright little lights float down Mystic River. This is our second time heading to Mystic and as usual, we were enchanted by its charm and beautiful water fronts. Don’t be fooled by its small town feel though. When it comes time to celebrate fall and winter, they know how to do it right. From Clyde’s Cider Mill and corn mazes in the fall to their Holiday Boat Parade and Christmas tree lighting, there’s …

The Butcher Shop Restaurant Review, Boston MA

Date Night at the Butcher Shop?

We did it again. We’ve headed back into Boston for another date night. This time was a little more low key than the last but after a long week, those are always welcome. For this date night, we headed to The Butcher Shop. No, we didn’t go to an actual butcher shop to purchase meat for a date night. 1) I definitely did not feel like cooking (did you not catch my mention of a long week?) and 2) staring at dead animals is not my idea of romantic. The Butcher Shop is actually a highly rated restaurant in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. The food is a combo of French (my favorite) and Italian (my husbands favorite) so it was a perfect match for us. With the name The Butcher Shop, you can expect a lot of well cured, perfectly cut and cooked meat. It is not only a wine bar but also a fully functioning butcher shop. Have no fear though, the restaurant is artfully decorated with a slate wine bar and …

Halloween Iron Pour, Providence RI

Fall Date Ideas: Make Sparks Fly at the Halloween Iron Pour

The Halloween Iron Pour is not your usual cookie cutter date night idea but it is the perfect night out to celebrate the festivities of Halloween in Providence, Rhode Island. With 2,500 pounds of molten iron and fire, live music under the stars, vendors and food to browse and sample, your sure to make sparks fly. Literally. This year, the Iron Pour celebrated its ten year anniversary with a Monsters Versus City theme. We recommend bundling up for this event and wearing comfy shoes as it takes place outside on concrete. We also recommend arriving early as there is a large line to get in and you’ll want to steak out a good spot for the best view. Resist the urge to check out all of the vendors first – you’ll have plenty of time for that later. Grab your food and drinks and find a spot either along the ropes or the last row of the bleachers for best view without having to worry about anyone who is taller than you blocking the action …

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular | Roger Williams Park Zoo

Fall Date Ideas: Roger Williams Park Zoo Jack O’Lantern Spectacular

One of the biggest Halloween traditions in Rhode Island is the Roger Williams Park Zoo Jack O’Lantern Spectacular. People come from far and wide to marvel at pumpkin art that rivals great Greek sculptors. This is a great date idea if you’re looking for a place to stroll and take in the sights. It is almost like going to an art gallery that is outside, Halloween inspired and generally cold. Make sure to bring a sweater and hold your significant other close. It is important to note that this is a very popular event that will have a lot of people in attendance. Make sure to arrive earlier as opposed to later as you could end up in line for quite some time. Also keep in mind that weekdays are usually have lower attendance versus a weekend. You can also buy your tickets online to circumvent the long wait. Roger Williams Park Zoo is located in the southern end of Providence. The parking situation can be a bit tricky with the mob of pumpkin gazers …

Fall Date Ideas: Corn Maze and Cider Mill

Fall Date Ideas: Cider and Corn Mazes

It is fall and sadly it will be gone too soon as winter slowly marches towards us. However we’re not there yet so take heart that there are some great date nights to be had. We took advantage of our day off on Columbus Day and decided to go get some fresh pressed apple cider and adventure through a corn maze. For the seasoned New Englander this should be almost habitual, but for those of us that hail from other places, this was magical. We decided that we should get our fresh pressed apple cider first before going and spending hours wandering the corn maze. We took the recommendation of a friend and made the drive down to Mystic, CT where Clyde’s Cider House resides. This place does not take apple cider lightly and has been that way for over 100 years. This is a public service announcement: there is a healthy population of bees in this area and given that apples are full of sugar, wait to get your apple cider products and check …
