Best Places for Coffee in Providence RI

Best Coffee Shops in Providence RI

Coffee is an integral part of American life these days. Most of the time it provides the kick we all need in the morning to get our day started. While this may be the typical association with coffee, it can also be a great catalyst for a first date or a laid back date. We have scowered Providence to highlight some exceptional coffee shops that each bring their own flair to the joy that is coffee (for those that do not drink coffee, what is wrong with you? Just kidding, or am I???) New Harvest Coffee and Spirits (@nharvestcoffee) Located in the oldest indoor mall in America, this establishment has a very relaxed atmosphere with ample seating, wonderful coffee and pastries. They roast all of their own coffee and distribute it around Providence to various establishments so you can expect some killer quality. One of the stand out features about this coffee shop is that they offer a large selection of whiskey for those later hours when coffee might not be the drink of choice. …

A Spa Date for Two – Butter Day Spa in Providence

The past month has been one of the craziest months we’ve had in a while. I was in a pedestrian accident with a car (me being the pedestrian) and spent the end of July recuperating (don’t worry guys, I’m feeling a lot better and back to my busy little self again). Then my parents came to visit us from California and we spent the next three weeks playing tour guide and showing them all that Rhode Island has to offer. We also did a road trip up to Bar Harbor, Maine stopping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and of course perusing the food scene of Portland. Even though our guests were my parents and it was fun traveling all over beautiful New England, having visitors for three weeks can be exhausting – especially parents or in-laws in my husband’s case (if you missed last weeks post, check out “How to Survive the In-Laws“). So as soon as their flight left, we decided to treat ourselves to something special and relaxing. We didn’t want …

Los Andes: Peruvian Delight

Every so often we like to talk about a place to go spend your hard earned money on that special someone. The proverbial dinner and a movie date idea seems so cliché at times, however we do want to go out and enjoy some delicious food without having to put the effort in to create it. I’m sure a lot of people can relate. This gem of a restaurant, nestled in the Elmhurst neighborhood of Providence, is a wonderful place to come enjoy some Latin cuisine with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant we are writing about is Los Andes. To start, this place is usually packed as it is no secret to the Providence local so make sure to try and call ahead a week in advance (maybe two sometimes) in order to ensure a reservation. One of the cool things about this place is even though the building is rather unassuming on the outside, the inside is very nicely executed. There is also free valet when you pull up, which makes it …

Getaway for the Day: Nashoba Valley Winery

Coming from California, I’ve learned to enjoy wineries, artisan wine and the lush and beautiful landscapes of neatly ordered vines growing for what seems like miles. So when Eric brought up the idea of going to a winery for a date, I was 1) excited as wineries feed my California nostalgia and 2) surprised to find out there’s actually wineries that are a short drive away.  We packed up our car for a day trip and headed to Nashoba Valley Winery, an hour from both Boston and Providence. Nashoba Valley Winery is a little slice of heaven for the wine connoisseur, the diner, the apple and peach picker, or anyone who wants to enjoy a beautiful day. I think what makes this winery really different from all of the wineries I’ve been to in Napa and Temecula is it’s mix of grape vines and orchards. We were surprised to find out that they have a vast array of wines, spirits, cider and beer – perfect for the wine expert (me) and the craft brew lover …

Blount Clam Shack Riverside RI

Carousels and Clam Cakes

If you’re looking for a date to chill, enjoy some conversation and maybe take advantage of a precious and perfect summer day that’s so rare in New England, we’ve got the perfect idea for you. On this particular date my wife and I decided to head down to the carousel in Riverside, Rhode Island on the corner of Beach Rd. and Bullocks Point Ave. This is a beautiful little hideaway that features local entertainment and community functions at least once a week. It’s also the perfect trifecta of food, fun and beautiful views. It’s a great place to come if you have small children because in addition to the carousel, there’s a vast amount of parks, playgrounds and beaches. Kids aside, this location works well for a first date or a relaxed date as there are plenty of places to walk around or lay down a blanket and have a picnic. The first thing on our minds when we arrived in the Crescent Park area was to get some food, enter Blount Clam Shack. There …

Dinner by the River: Waterman Grille

This is a glimpse into one of the first date nights my lovely wife and I engaged in when we moved to the beautiful state of Rhode Island. The lead up to this date was actually a story in itself but to cut it short, our gas stove was not working and we didn’t have a microwave yet so we decided to make it a date night and venture out into the unknown. You know when you walk into a candy store and all of the sudden you have no idea what to get because you have every option in the world? Well that is exactly the situation we were in. We had been in Providence maybe one day and now we had to navigate the culinary landscape that Providence has to offer, which is no easy feat. We figured we would go somewhere relatively close and we landed on Waterman Grille. First off, we had no idea what to expect with this but we knew it was considered a finer dining experience (based off …
