15 Ideas to Honor Your Husband This Father’s Day

Father’s Day is an occasion to show your husband, the father of your children or even future children, some hard-earned respect and care. Show the man you love how much you appreciate him. Here are some ideas to honor your husband this Father’s Day: Go fishing with him and turn it into a picnic. Bring a portable grill and plan for eating some of his hard earned catch, but make sure you have a backup just in case he gets skunked. Go to a car show! You may not care about what type of engine is in that 80’s GTO but he does. Let him tell you all about it. Take him to a concert with his favorite band. This is always location dependent but live music always makes for a good time. Book a reservation at his dream restaurant. We know there are foodies out there and this speaks to their love language. Go camping for the weekend. This takes a little planning but if your husband loves the outdoors, this is a great …

Valentine's Day ideas: Re-create your very first date night

Valentine’s Day Ideas: Re-Create Your First Date

Recreating your very first date night is the perfect date night for a special occasion, anniversary, or Valentine’s Day. Reminisce about funny memories, simpler times, memorable moments, and how far you’ve come over the years. Bring back those feelings of excitement – minus the awkwardness, uncertainty, and nervousness – and spend a night walking down memory lane together. Here are a few things to think about as you go about re-planning your first date night: What time of the day was it? Was it in the morning, afternoon, or night? Try to plan it around the same time. What were you wearing? How did you do your hair? Don’t do the ultimate tbt and bring back fashion that should remain in the past but do find something similar. Were you wearing a summer dress? Casual? Dressy? Where did you go? Plan ahead and make reservations. What did you do? Think back to every detail of that night and how you can replicate it. Were there flowers, chocolates, or other small gifts? What conversations did you …

DIY Valentine's Day ideas: Hide handwritten cards around the house

DIY Valentine’s Day Ideas: Hide Cards Around the House

Hiding cards around the house is the perfect Valentine’s Day, and even Anniversary or birthday idea. It’s a great way to remind your partner how much you think of them, how thankful you are for them, and how much you love them. Forget the traditional Hallmark card and do something that will be a simple and sweet gesture for your special occasion. This is one of my favorite February 14th ideas my husband has done. It was thoughtful, creative, but not too over-the-top cheesy — my kind of Valentine’s Day. Here’s how to pull off this cute Valentine’s Day idea: Buy simple and small cards. You’ll want something that has a Valentine’s cover but are blank on the inside. Plan what you’ll write in the cards. Remember, you’ll be hiding quite a few around the house. You want to be careful of rambling and you want them all to be meaningful. Choosing a theme makes it easy. Here are examples of themes you can write about: Reasons why you’re thankful for your partner Reasons why …

Oberlin Providence, Rhode Island

Providence, RI Must Try Restaurants: Oberlin Review

If you have ever been to downtown Providence, you know there are many restaurants to choose from. With so many choices, it’s hard to make a decision. We had heard from a friend about the restaurant Oberlin and put it on our ever growing must-try list. Do yourself a favor and put Oberlin at the top of your list. To begin, this restaurant does not take any reservations so show up at least a half hour early as you will be waiting. Even if you don’t like waiting, trust us. The food is worth it! Oberlin has a casual atmosphere and Mediterranean inspired décor. The area is small and softly lit, making it the perfect intimate place for a date night. Walking into the restaurant, there are Italian lights on the ceiling but to add a creative element, they played Quentin Tarantino’s Deathproof on the wall for those waiting. If your wait is a little long, step up to the bar where a sampling of unusual and original cocktails, amazing wine list and oddly, a …

Boston must try restaurants: Ostra review

Boston Must Try Restaurants: Ostra Review

Every once and while, we adventure outside of Providence and head into the next closest food meca: good ol’ Boston. This time we decided to try Ostra, a Mediterranean inspired restaurant that seemed like the perfect place for a special night out. Although their food has a Mediterranean flair, the decor is intriguing but clean and contemporary. You’re greeted with crisp, white walls, a cool black and white octopus painted onto them and metal horseshoe crabs intermediately hung in varying places. There’s a slick bar area that turns into a view of the kitchen and a beautiful spread of oysters on ice. The dinning room is large and open, with high ceilings, white pendant lanterns that look like jellyfish, giant black and white photos of the sea, and tables plated with cool horseshoe crab charger plates that I wanted for my own home. I feel like I just keep saying cool over and over again, and really, that’s the best way to sum it up. The atmosphere certainly leaves quite the impression and you definitely …

Providence restaurant review Mills Tavern

Providence, RI Must Try Restaurants: Mill’s Tavern Review

Everyone has their favorite restaurants that have the dishes they crave month in and month out. We all have these go to spots that offer up good times and fond memories. You may even have a reoccurring date night specific restaurant list. While it is never a bad thing to be intentional about date nights, there is always some room for a little change. Sometimes we all want to feel a little fancy and treat ourselves to something nice. Mill’s Tavern in downtown Providence offers an inviting atmosphere with a seasonal menu that always impresses. One of the obvious things that makes this restaurant great for a special occasion is the atmosphere. Don’t let the word tavern deter you. It’s far from that. Huge windows that let in the evening light, beautiful stone and wood walls, and soft romantic lights really set the tone for the night. Not to mention valet and overwhelmingly great service make the night feel seamless, special and relaxed. We began our evening with wine and appetizers. Additionally, the cocktail list …

La Voile French Restaurant - Newbury Street, Boston

Date Night on Newbury Street, Boston

We finally spread our wings and made our way to the beautiful city of Boston for a date night. Although we love our little city of Providence, we wanted to do something with a different scene. We headed to Newbury Street for a night of exploring, roaming, sight seeing and ending the night with dinner and dessert at La Voile. One of the things that we don’t like about Boston is that parking is always a hassle: it costs too much, there’s never any street parking, or if there is street parking, there is a chance of getting a ticket. We know from experience unfortunately, as we’ve gotten many tickets in Boston. With this date we decided to try to centralize it into one area so we wouldn’t have to deal with the insanity of parking in Boston. Also, because we made such a long trek, we wanted to do something that was not just going to a restaurant but also seeing the sights and taking our time. Enter Newbury Street. Part of the Back Bay neighborhood, this …

Personal Chef for the Night

Usually we write about some amazing restaurant that we’ve discovered in New England, an incredible recipe idea or helpful relationship advice. But not tonight! We’ve gone a little out of the box. Nay, we’ve left the box. There were flames (literally), entertainment and amazing food all from the comfort of our home. How is this possible from home you ask? Easy, a personal chef for the night. Enter Mr. Joe Choi, a professional chef with a flare for complex flavors in what seems like simple recipes. On tonight’s menu he prepared an eggplant caponata appetizer, pan seared scallops with oyster mushroom risotto and s’mores torched right in front of us on our very own dinning room table. He took over our quaint, little kitchen and worked culinary magic on our tiny stove. A personal chef seems like something only for the rich and famous. This couldn’t be further form the truth! Most personal chef’s curve their meal plan based off of your personal preference, dietary need and budget. Doing a quick search on yelp for …

The Dorrance

Downtown Providence is a hot bed for great places to eat. On this particular evening, we decided to go to The Dorrance on the corner of Westminster and Dorrance St. Once you step through the revolving doors of The Dorrance, it looks as if you have taken a step back in time. You are immediately confronted by a rather long bar, but before you think this is just a bar, take a look around and immediately the level of class sky rockets. The high vaulted ceilings are splashed with maroon and cream with gold ascents that look like they are from the Gilded Age. This may all seem very picturesque, and believe me it is, but once we made our way to our seats, the night just kept getting better. Given this was more of a special occasion for us, we decided to have a drink to get the night started. The cocktail list is worth the read as the house specials are cleverly crafted and if you aren’t interested in those, you can always …

Dinner by the River: Waterman Grille

This is a glimpse into one of the first date nights my lovely wife and I engaged in when we moved to the beautiful state of Rhode Island. The lead up to this date was actually a story in itself but to cut it short, our gas stove was not working and we didn’t have a microwave yet so we decided to make it a date night and venture out into the unknown. You know when you walk into a candy store and all of the sudden you have no idea what to get because you have every option in the world? Well that is exactly the situation we were in. We had been in Providence maybe one day and now we had to navigate the culinary landscape that Providence has to offer, which is no easy feat. We figured we would go somewhere relatively close and we landed on Waterman Grille. First off, we had no idea what to expect with this but we knew it was considered a finer dining experience (based off …
